Episode Notes:

North Korea's role in Russia’s war in Ukraine has been widely discussed, namely the number of troops Pyongyang has provided Moscow over the last few years. One of the more overlooked aspects of their cooperation is the North Korean Special Forces units that have gained real combat exposure and experience fighting alongside Russian soldiers in Kursk. Anton Ponomarenko expands on his latest piece, “North Korea’s Irregular Warfare After Ukraine,” for War on the Rocks to discuss how this new battle experience translates into a heightened risk of covert operations on the Korean Peninsula.
