Episode Notes:
The United States issued sanctions this week against the Turkish defense industry. They were imposed on Turkey pursuant to the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), for purchasing the S-400 surface-to-air missile system from Russia. Washington argues that the deployment undermines bilateral ties and NATO. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, naturally, condemned the sanctions.
Nicholas Danforth — a contributing editor at War on the Rocks and non-resident senior research fellow at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) — joins the Warcast to explain developments in Turkey and how the incoming Biden administration should approach ties with Ankara.
[ 01:06 ] How, specifically, will S-400 sanctions affect U.S.-Turkish relations?
[ 03:46 ] How should the Joe Biden administration approach bilateral ties?
