Episode Notes:
On Feb. 1, the Indian government released a new budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The budget includes more spending on rural areas and increased import tariffs, a move that will increase tensions with the United States. New Delhi is seeking to counter an economic slowdown and target key voting constituencies with a modestly expansionary fiscal policy.
Rick Rossow — Wadhwani Chair in U.S.-India Policy Studies and senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies — joins the WarCast to discuss India’s budget, identify key economic takeaways, and explore defense spending in India.
