Navalny Arrested in Moscow

Alexei Navalny, Russia’s leading opposition figure and critic of President Vladimir Putin, is back in jail in Moscow. He was arrested shortly after returning to Russia from Germany, where he was recuperating after the Russian security services poisoned him last year.

Mark Galeotti joins the Warcast to discuss Navalny’s detention and what it means for Russian politics, Putin’s standing in the political system, and Navalny’s future. Galeotti is the principal director of Mayak Intelligence, an honorary professor at University College London’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies, and a senior associate fellow with the Royal United Services Institute. He is the author of several books on Russia, most recently A Short History of Russia: How the World's Largest Country Invented Itself, from the Pagans to Putin, and the host of the podcast “In Moscow’s Shadows.”
