Episode Notes:

On August 2, the Islamic State attacked a prison in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, leaving 29 people dead. Reports suggest 1,500 prisoners escaped, although some were later caught. The attack came a day after Afghan forces killed a senior Islamic State commander. The dead included Afghan security forces and Taliban members, highlighting the complex threat environment in the country as the United States and coalitions force seek to drawdown their presence.

Jonathan Schroden — director of the Center for Stability and Development Program and the Special Operations Program at CNA — joins the Warcast to explain developments in Afghanistan.
