The deaths of U.S. soldiers in Niger recently highlighted the number of wars ongoing globally under the radar of most media. One such war has been going on in the Central African Republic, where the United Nations has been conducting a peacekeeping operation while trying to build governmental institutions in this economically challenged state. Louisa Lombard, an assistant professor of anthropology at Yale, talks with Jason about the war, the peacekeeping mission, and last week’s visit to the Central African Republic by the UN Secretary General.
