Episode Notes:
When the Iranian regime insisted that a ceasefire with the United States should also apply to fighting between Israel and Hizballah in Lebanon, it surprised some analysts and policymakers. In a recent article for War on the Rocks, Sajjad Safaei argued that the interests of Iran's regime and Hizballah are more closely aligned than many observers recognize, but also that their relationship is more complex than simply a principal and its proxy. Kerry talks with Sajjad about the layers of relations between Iran and Lebanon, why neither the Iranian regime nor Hizballah was as weak as many believed, and why Hizballah felt it had to strike Israel after the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran began.
