The Future of U.S.-Pakistani Ties

September 3, 2021

Episode Notes:

For decades, the United States used Pakistani airspace and ground lines of communication to supply the war effort in Afghanistan. That provided Pakistan with considerable leverage and prevented Washington from taking a more forceful response to Pakistan’s support for the Taliban and Haqqani network. The U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan is sure to change fundamental dynamics in U.S.-Pakistani ties.

To discuss this important bilateral relationship, we’re joined by Sameer Lalwani. Sameer is a senior fellow at the Stimson Center.
