Ethiopian-Sudanese Border Flares Up

January 13, 2021

Episode Notes:

Tensions between Ethiopia and Sudan appear no closer to resolution after each country accused the other of stoking a border dispute. The war of words follows armed clashes late last year in al-Fashqa, a region within Sudan’s international boundaries that has long been settled by Ethiopian farmers. The dispute comes at a precarious time for the Ethiopian military, which is fighting a civil conflict in the region of Tigray.

Alex de Waal — executive director of the World Peace Foundation, research professor at The Fletcher School at Tufts University, and one of the foremost experts on Sudan and the Horn of Africa — joins the Warcast to discuss developments on the border between Ethiopia and Sudan.
