The ‘Unbeatable’ Taliban

August 26, 2021

Episode Notes:

Three years ago, our next guest, Theo Farrell, published an article in the Texas National Security Review on the Taliban. He argued that the Taliban was unbeatable. As we’ve seen in the last few weeks, this forecast was tragically accurate.

Theo Farrell is a leading expert on the Taliban and the U.K.’s war in Afghanistan. He’s a professor and deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Wollongong in Australia. He was previously head of the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. He advised the U.K. Ministry of Defence and International Security Assistance Force Command in Kabul. He was also involved in track II talks with senior Taliban. His latest book is Unwinnable: Britain’s War in Afghanistan, 2001-2014.
