Drinking Disruption

September 9, 2014

Here are War on the Rocks, we pride ourselves on being the world’s only booze themed foreign policy and defense website. And, as you all know, innovation – particularly of the “disruptive” kind – is a hot topic in defense.

Well, it looks like alcohol giant Diageo, purveyor of some of my favorite brands (including Talisker, Lagavulin, and Guinness) has caught the innovation bug. With the launch of Diageo Technology Ventures, the company aims to give investments of $100,000 each to fund pilot projects that can help Diageo “deliver breakthrough innovation for both our business and our industry” for a series of specific challenges or briefs. Successful applicants will also get a change to work closely with Diageo executives.

If you’re a tech entrepreneur, this is a great opportunity.

The first two briefs are Responsible Drinking and Combating Theft.  Check out Diageo’s Tech Ventures page for more information.
